Features

A short list, on purpose. Every item below works offline and stores its result in a file you can read.

Storage

Notes are Markdown files with a small YAML header holding the title, created date and any tags you add. Attachments are copied into an assets/ folder next to the notes and referenced with relative paths, so moving the vault does not break images.

There is no hidden state. Deleting Marlow leaves the folder exactly as it is, and deleting a file in Finder removes the note.

Search

The index lives in .marlow/index and is rebuilt incrementally on file changes. It supports plain terms, quoted phrases, tag:name and path: filters, and it falls back to a linear scan when the index is missing — slower, but never wrong.

Links and backlinks

Writing [[Note title]] creates a wiki link. The panel on the right lists every note that links to the one you are reading, resolved by title or by path when two notes share a name.

Editor

Keyboard-first, with a command palette on Ctrl/Cmd + K. Rendered Markdown with the cursor in place, not a split preview. Tables are edited as text but aligned on save.

What Marlow does not do

No mobile app yet. No collaborative editing. No web clipper. No AI features — the team's position is that a note app should be predictable, and a model rewriting your notes is the opposite of that.
